Join us for a Friday night Shabbat experience for young professionals, where we bring you good food and great company on the fourth Shabbat of each month.
 
Our January event includes spirited services, wine, beer, and delicious Indian food. In anticipation of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, photographer Leslie Starobin will introduce us to her exhibit, Looming in the Shadows of Lodz, a multi-media series that weaves together film, photography, and oral histories to reveal how the Shoah affects generations of one family. This exhibit appears at The Vilna from Friday, January 26, through Friday, February 16, and is supported by a CJP Community Creative Grant.

Meet the Artist

Leslie Starobin

Leslie Starobin is a Boston-area photographer and montage artist.

Starobin’s artwork is in the permanent collection of many academic museums, including the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, The Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life at the University of California at Berkeley, the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, and the Smith College Museum of Art in Northampton, MA. Her work is also in the collection of numerous public museums in America, including the Jewish Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, NY, the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, TX.

Throughout her career, Starobin has received numerous grants. In 2020, she received a grant from the Framingham Cultural Council, a subsidiary of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, to support the project, “Looming in the Shadows of Łódź.” 

Starobin is a tenured Professor of Studio Art at Framingham State University in Massachusetts. She currently teaches photography and photojournalism.
