Join film director Cellin Gluck, Sugihara Diplomats for Life Foundation Chairman Linas Venclauskas, and Staci Rosenthal from Facing History & Ourselves for a discussion on the unknown story of Chiune Sugihara, a Japanese diplomat (sometimes called the Schindler of Japan). What influences his decision to issue over 2,000 visas to Jewish refugees in Kaunas, Lithuania resulting in saving the lives of over 6,000 people?
The film will be available starting the Wednesday, January 20 for only 5 days. The film follows Sugihara's life from his early days in Manchuria to his eventual posting in Lithuania and his appointment with destiny which would forever brand him a hero. Cellin Gluck is a director known for Persona Non Grata (2015), Oba The Last Samurai (2011), Sideways - aka Saidoweizu (2009) and Lorelei (2005). As an assistant director/production manager he is known for Godzilla (2014), Memoirs of a Geisha (2005), Transformers (2007), Remember the Titans (2000) and Contact (1997) among others. Born and spending his 'formative years' in Japan and Iran, Cellin graduated from the Canadian Academy in Kobe before attending the Claremont Colleges, graduating from Pitzer College with honors from the Pomona College Theatre Department. Using his multi-cultural heritage to its fullest, he has spent the past 28+ years in film production with a particular emphasis on Japan.
Linas Venclauskas holds PhD in history focusing on modern Lithuanian Anti-Semitism and has served as Deputy Chairman of Sugihara Diplomats for Life Foundation in Kaunas, Lithuania since 2004. In 2017, he was editor in chief of articles collection: Casablanca of The North: Refugees and Rescuers in Kaunas, 1939–1940, and created an exhibition displayed at Sugihara House in 2018 entitled Casablanca of the North: Kaunas 1939 – 1940. He is also a professional tour guide and researcher at the Sugihara House.
Staci Rosenthal is a Program Associate on the Jewish Education Team at Facing History and Ourselves, where she has facilitated workshops and other professional development opportunities for educators in Jewish settings across the country for over four years. She brings to Facing History a Master's in Anthropology which she combines with deep knowledge of Holocaust history, former teaching experience, and passion for societal reform through education. She lives in Hudson Massachusetts but is currently working from Martha's Vineyard, MA.

チェリン・グラック監督は、「ペルソナ・ノン・グラータ」（2005年）、「太平洋の奇跡 -フォックスと呼ばれた男-」（2011年）、「サイドウェイズ」（2009年）、「ローレライ」（2005年）を監督し、「GODZILLA ゴジラ」（2014年）、「SAYURI」（2005年）、「トランスフォーマー」（2007年）「タイタンズを忘れない」（2000年）、「コンタクト」（1997年）を始め数多くの作品で助監督およびプロデューサーを務めました。日本で生まれ幼少期を日本とイランで過ごし、神戸のカナディアン・アカデミーを卒業後クレアモントカレッジズで学び、ピッツァ・カレッジを優等で卒業するとともに、ポモナ・カレッジで演劇を専攻しました。多くの異文化を受け継いだ彼はそれを最大限に生かして、過去28年以上にわたり映画製作に携り特に日本に重点を置います。
Linas Venclauskas氏は歴史学博士で近代リトアニアにおける反ユダヤ主義を専門としています。2004年からリトアニアのカウナスにある杉原記念館の副会長を務めました。2017年には記事コレクション「Casablanca of The North: Refugees and Rescuers in Kaunas, 1939–1940」の編集長を務め、2018年にそのコレクションを展示にまとめ杉原記念館で公開しました。
