Welcome Shabbat with Havurah on the Hill and make a *pilgrimage* to the year 1620 and the arrival of the Pilgrims. This month, as Massachusetts commemorates the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the Mayflower, we are excited to welcome HOH community member and Associate Director of Interpretation and Training at Plimoth Patuxet (formerly known as Plimoth Plantation) Malka Benjamin. Malka will give us a behind-the-scenes peek into what goes into creating one of Plimoth Patuxet’s world famous living history Pilgrim character portrayals, and introduce us to one of her favorite alter egos, Mayflower passenger Susanna (White) Winslow.

Please note that this event is planned for people in their 20's and 30's by people in their 20's and 30's. If you are not in this age demographic, we kindly ask that you do not register and instead check out some of our other virtual offerings.

Who was Pilgrim Susanna (White) Winslow?
In 1620 Susanna (White) Winslow schlepped across the Atlantic Ocean with her husband, young son, two servants, and rapidly growing belly on the now-famous ship Mayflower. After all the tzuris of delivering her baby aboard Mayflower, she was widowed when her husband died of the “common sickness” during their first winter in New England. She quickly remarried, and went on to fress with the Wampanoag at the “First Thanksgiving” in the fall of 1621. Her second husband, Edward Winslow, penned two 17th-century bestsellers, Good News from New England, and Hypocrisy Unmasked, and eventually became governor of Plymouth Colony.
