Welcome Shabbat with Havurah on the Hill! This virtual event is led by young adults for young adults across the community in partnership with 18Doors. This month we are excited to bring back our Hanukkah Lakte topping taste off event! After a group candle lighting, we will be intertwining a unique taste testing event with a selection of Friday night prayers in an effort to embrace the American millennial gustatory experience. Please register to receive the zoom link and the list of food items recommended in order to participate in the event.
We enthusiastically encourage everyone to obtain the following list of items in advance to be able to successfully participate in the taste off. Trust us - these toppings have been carefully curated and thoughtfully chosen. If you know you do not like some of these toppings, do not feel compelled to purchase them, it will be possible to just not participate in that round of voting.
- Sour Cream
- Apple Sauce
- Hoisin Sauce
- Sriracha (or Sriracha mayo if you prefer)
- Honey Mustard/Dijon Mustard/Honey Dijon
- Nutella
- Ketchup
- Soy Sauce
- Tahini
- Guacamole
- A random sweet topping of your choosing
- A random savory topping of your choosing
and most importantly...
- Latkes
Latke Options:
Feel free to source your laktes from any location you choose, but here are some easy recommendations. Both Roche Brothers and the Butcherie has fresh latkes for purchase. Trader Joes has decent edible frozen ones. Other grocery stores will have less decent edible ones in their kosher frozen sections. As a last ditch effort, you can always get frozen hash browns. If you want to get fancy and make your own, here is just one of many recipes you can find online for easy to make latkes (gluten free all purpose baking flour can easily be substituted for those of you with gluten allergies). 18Doors also has two new recipes for non-traditional latkes this year, a zaatar carrot waffle latke and a sweet potato latke eggs benedict with miso hollandaise.
