This April, as we reflect on the themes of Passover, join Havurah on the Hill as we learn about a modern Jewish exodus. During the Cold War the Soviet Union oppressed the millions of Jews living within its borders, yet making it extraordinarily difficult for them to leave the country. This month we will hear from Dr. Slava Gaufberg about his journey as a Soviet Jewish refugee.

Born and raised in Poltava, USSR (now Ukraine), Dr. Gaufberg was Chief of Labor & Delivery at an obstetrical hospital in Moscow. In 1982 he was striped of Soviet citizenship, and after living in refugee centers in Vienna and Rome, he arrived in the United States as a political refugee. Already a practicing physician, he had to re-train and get re-credentialed after coming to the US. He now works for Harvard Medical School as a physician and teacher and is married with four daughters
