The Vilna Shul is honored to host Golem v. Golem on our front plaza from March 24 - April 4. Golem v. Golem is one of three projects that make up the national Dwelling in a Time of Plagues public art project. It is created by LA-based artist and Jewish educator Julie Weitz. In her Golem series, Julie takes on the persona of this imagined character, the Jewish mythical golem creature, who has come to speak about what really plagues us today.

Make it an afternoon! There is plenty of metered parking available on Cambridge Street and Charles Street. After stopping by the Vilna, check out one of the local restaurants, including Flour, Harvard Gardens, Fins Sushi & Grill, or Starbucks on Cambridge Street. Walk down to Charles Street and enjoy the unique boutique shops including Flat of the Hill, Ouimillie, December Thieves, Covet, and so many others!

How to experience Golem v. Golem:

  • WATCH the 8-part video series on Instagram. One video each day of Passover starting March 28!
  • VISIT the Vilna Shul for the physical installation! On display March 24 - April 4. The installation is completely outside, so reservations are not neccessary.
  • READ the artist's statement on the work.
  • CHECK OUT the recent press on the exhibition: eJewish PhilanthropyJewishBoston, and The Boston Globe

Golem v. Golem by Julie Weitz is produced by Asylum Arts, made possible with the generous support of CANVAS. The project is presented at the Vilna Shul, Boston's Center for Jewish Culture in partnership with the Jewish Arts Collaborative. A companion literary collaboration, "What We Talk About When We Talk to the Golem," by Moriel Rothman-Zecher, is produced by Jewish Book Council. Digital partners include the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco. The work is part of a North American project – Dwelling in a Time of Plagues – a coast-to-coast Jewish artistic response to contemporary plagues. To see the other works on display, click here
