In recent months, much of the conversation in American society has centered on racial justice, equity and anti-racism. These conversations have extended deep into Jewish communities, as well. However, some of the groups that are frequently overlooked in Jewish conversations about race, are Jewish communities of Color, and Sephardic and Mizrahi communities. These communities make up a significant portion of the American Jewish community, and yet their stories are often overshadowed by the broader concerns of the Ashkenazi Jewish community.

Join the Vilna for a narrative-arts based, video workshop with Kaleidoscope, an organization that uses personal monologue and spoken word to highlight the personal stories of Jews of Color, and Jews from Sephardic & Mizrachi backgrounds. The ultimate goal: to help communities develop greater receptivity and sensitivity to issues of Jewish diversity.

In this interactive workshop, Kaleidoscope facilitators share clips of the performer’s powerful monologues followed by questions, prompted writing exercises, group sharing and conversation. Though our stories focus on the experiences of Jewish racial and cultural diversity, we believe EVERYONE has a story to tell that reflects a time of feeling “othered” within and outside the Jewish Community. We all have our own personal journey -- what's yours?

In partnership with KALEIDOSCOPE. Boldly Diverse - Distinctly Jewish.

Sponsored by Combined Jewish Philanthropies.
