Join nationally recognized Jewish food writer Leah Koenig for an author talk about her recently published book, Portico (coming to bookstores September 2023), followed by a cooking demonstration, tasting and book signing.
“A fascinating read—and a delight to cook from!"
Shaped by centuries of hardship and a tightly bound community, the Roman Jewish kitchen is defined by its simple-but-elegant approach to vegetables, a love of foods fried in olive oil, saucy braised meats, and beguiling desserts.
Leah will demonstrate (and you’ll get to taste) three recipes from the book--Silky Marinated Zucchini (concia), Artichoke Frittata (frittata di carciofi), and Chocolate Marzipan (marzapane al cioccolato). Enjoy home-style cuisine from the Roman-Jewish kitchen.
Sukkot on the Hill asks the question “What does home mean to you?” Our sukkah art installation, walking tour of Jewish Beacon Hill, cookbook event with Leah Koenig, and talk with Vilna-born artist Samuel Bak and gallerist Bernie Pucker each offer a different answer to the question. Join us at The Vilna and share your answer to the question, “What does home mean to you? Each program includes a welcome reception with light bites and festive spirits in our sukkah.
Booksales of Portico available onsite & through Trident Booksellers & Cafe.
