June 16, 2009, the Vilna Shul along with eleven other historic sites in Greater Boston received a grant as part of the Partners in Preservation program, funded by American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The winners of the grant were determined by online voting and a committee of local leaders and preservationists. Work on the Vilna Shul restoration project will begin in Fall 2009.
