Join Havurah on the Hill for our monthly Kabbalat Shabbat celebration. New faces are always welcome at Havurah on the Hill, so bring your friends feauting Dr. Stephen Hatch discussing his work in Africa fighting the Ebola virus during the recent outbreak. His first-hand stories shed light on the challenges in fighting this epidemic and bring a humanitarian aspect to the work that is still be done today.  

Steven Hatch serves as Associate Professor of Medicine at UMass Medical School with specialty in infectious diseases. He first came to Boston in 1987 for college at Brandeis University and completed his medical residency at Tufts before training at UMass in Infectious Diseases. His wife Miriam has worked as a architectural consultant for schools and orphanages in Rwanda and Haiti. He prefers to write about the gap that separates patients from clinicians by writing about complex ideas in clear prose and educating lay audiences develop a deeper understanding about the hows & whys of modern medicine. His professional writings "Blind Man's Marathon," a memoir of his initial clinical experiences in medical school; "Snowball in a Blizzard: A Physician's Notes on Uncertainty in Medicine," and finally, "Inferno: A Doctor's Ebola Story," his reflections on the West African Ebola outbreak.

Getting to the Vilna Shul:
Free validated parking is always available for Havurah on the Hill's monthly Shabbat celebrations at the Charles River Garage (165 Cambridge Street, Boston). Please note that this is NOT the above-ground Whole Foods lot, but the parking garage between the Whole Foods lot and the Au Bon Pain. Please bring your green ticket into the Vilna for a validation stamp. The Vilna Shul is also easily accessible by public transportation. Take the MBTA Red Line to Charles/MGH.
